Saprissa win an eight-goal thriller against Sporting

Saprissa and Sporting FC came into the game among the leading sides of the Apertura: both had shared top spot in the opening rounds of the tournament.

It was an end-to-end encounter with eight goals in total, and Saprissa prevailed 5-3 thanks to their attacking firepower, the same quality that had allowed them to thrash Chorotega and Pococí in earlier rounds.

With this win, the Purples made it six victories from six Apertura matches and strengthened their title credentials in a tournament in which only the top four advance to the semifinals.

For Sporting, the defeat was a blow in the race for the qualification places, though the team showed its goalscoring ability in one of the most demanding stadiums in the league.
