Under a downpour in Tibás, Saprissa took their time to break the deadlock. Just past the half-hour, Luis Javier Paradela delivered a precise cross and Gerson Torres turned it into the net.
Early in the second half, Andrey Soto found himself one-on-one after a throw-in and finished calmly to score his first goal in the purple shirt.
Escorpiones pulled one back almost immediately: after a corner, Christian Muñoz tried his luck from distance and the ball, deflected off Samir Taylor, wrong-footed Isaac Alfaro. The 2-1 forced Saprissa to see out the game with more tension than expected.
Hernán Medford's side held on and stayed top of the Apertura, while Escorpiones remained stuck near the bottom of the table.
