Honduras arrived in Kingston stung by their opening-day defeat to Suriname and settled the match inside the first quarter of an hour. Deybi Flores threaded the ball through to Jonathan Rubio, who teed up Keyrol Figueroa; it was the striker's first goal for the senior national team.
Jamaica lost Renaldo Cephas to injury early on and never found any rhythm. The door opened for them in the second half when Dereck Moncada was sent off for a challenge on Ronaldo Webster, leaving Honduras to defend with a man fewer for more than twenty minutes.
That was when Edrick Menjívar stepped up. The Honduran goalkeeper protected the lead with key interventions, while at the other end Andre Blake also answered the call against Alenis Vargas. Kaheim Dixon had the equaliser on his boot but sent his effort wide.
The win is historic: Honduras had never won in Jamaica and ended a thirteen-year run without beating the Reggae Boyz. Both sides sit on three points ahead of the return leg in Tegucigalpa.
