Two blows before half-time were enough for Haiti to leave Costa Rica pointless and their League A status in jeopardy.

Haiti, who play their home games in Jamaica because of the security situation in their country, took control before Costa Rica had settled. Inside the first ten minutes Jean-Ricner Bellegarde opened the scoring, and from then on the midfielder dictated the tempo.
The second arrived a few minutes before the break: a Fafà Picault effort deflected off Francisco Calvo and wrong-footed the Costa Rican goal. The Ticos' best chance came from an Orlando Sinclair strike that goalkeeper Alexandre Pierre kept out.
Fernando Batista turned to his bench at half-time with Gerson Torres and Douglas López, and later with Andrey Soto and Doryan Rodríguez, but Costa Rica never created clear openings. Long balls aimed at Jeyland Mitchell found nobody, and only a long-range shot from Josimar Alcocer tested Pierre again.
The result left Haiti on six points from two matchdays and Costa Rica on zero, fifth in their group. The national team is still winless in 2026, and the coaching staff is under scrutiny with two fixtures left: the trip to Nicaragua and the return meeting with Haiti at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.
